Circulation

Circulating pumps are typically centrifugal pumps which are used to keep fluids in constant flow within a closed system. They are often chosen due to the low head and system pressures required by such applications as the only losses within the system tend to be pipework and accessory friction losses.

Positive displacement pumps may be used due to the viscosity of fluids. Circulation pumps are typically used in applications such as closed-loop circulation, and heating systems.

Circulation systems are also used at times to keep fluids from separating such as fluids containing pigments, solids or other particles which may separate out due to gravity should flow stop. Some chemicals such as lime when dosing in wastewater treatment separate out from the water meaning its contents must be kept in constant agitation.
