Cargo pumps are used on board vessels for the unloading and loading of a ships load which includes Fuels such as HFO, LSFO, LNG and Chemicals. Deepwell Cargo Pump designs are where the pump head is submerged in tanks with the motor dry mounted on deck connected via an elongated shaft. Motors can be of hydraulic or electric design. This design of unit should be used in conjunction with a stripping system to increase fluid recovery rates.

Alternatively, units can be dry mounted within a cofferdam between cargo tanks enabling different technologies to be used such as screw, vane, gear, or centrifugal enabling tanks to be stripped of fluid increasing fluid recovery rate when compared to deepwell design. At times a stripping system may still be required.
