Circulation Pump
Circulating pumps are typically centrifugal pumps which are used to keep fluids in constant flow within a closed system. They are often chosen due to the low head and system pressures required by such applications as the only losses within the system tend to be pipework and accessory friction losses.
On board vessels circulation pumps are used to recirculate seawater for cooling of equipment such as engines, turbines, and winches. As the seawater is abundant an open loop system is used where seawater is taken onbord, circulated through equipment to cool then discharged overboard. Closed loop circulation is used on board for services which utilise fresh water such as heating.
