Circulator Pump Troubleshooting Guide
Circulator Pump Troubleshooting Guide
90% of pump issues are caused by the system they are installed in, so when a fault develops with a pump, it is usually the pump which is the symptom of the failure and something needs changing within the system in order to rectify the issue.
If you are experiencing issues with your Circulator Pump, the below guide can help you diagnose any issues, or speak to one of our Technical Sales Engineers for further assistance:
Problem | Possible Cause | Remedy |
Motor not Starting | Overvoltage | Check input voltage. |
Undervoltage | Check motor resistance. Low input voltage. Electronic board failure. Change Pump
Over Current | Power Factor Controller (PFC) Fault, Burned component. Change PFC. Replace Circuit board
Processing Unit Failure | Pump operating outside of duty point | Check pump settings |
Communication Failure | Software update required
Display Blank | Loose cable contact to display | Reconnect Cable and tighten |
Faulty LED | Change display
Communication Failure | Loose Contact | Check the display cable & replace if required |
Power Module Failure | High Motor Load / Converter Overload, Motor operating outside of range | Insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) fault. Check motor resistance and mechanically. Change Pump |
Motor Connection | Converter Overload | Power supply connection lost. Replace pump |
Software motor protection | Loose contact. Check motor resistance and mechanically
Motor Parameters outside of range | Power supply connection loose / lost. Change Pump
Electrical Motor | High Load / Converter Overload / Motor Parameters outside of range | Electric phase missing inside stator. Check motor for signs of leakage, condensation or thermal damage. Replace pump |
Mechanical Motor Failure | Low Motor Load | Check pressure, bleed pump, check density of liquid. If noisy check impeller. |
High Motor Load | Check for metal particles within pump head, build up of limescale. Possible sticky medium, blocked rotor or cavitation.
Converter Overload | Check for signs of leakage, particle ingress. Check for end suction ring wear and recheck installation
Undervoltage | Check windings. Will result in loss of flow, yet still operational.
Software motor protection | Pump too hot. Check fluid temperature. Replace Pump
Motor temperature too hot for operation | Check fluid temperature. Replace Pump |
