Enquiry for a Food Grade, Electric Motor Driven Barrel Pump

A UK oriental food manufacturer was in urgent need of a pump to transfer sustainably sourced palm oil at 85°C from a tank for their cooking process. The pump needed to be stainless steel, food grade and powered by an electric motor. The tank was 1.2 metres deep and it was advised that the oil was low viscosity, clean and did not contain any particles. 

We have a wide range of barrel pumps that can be used for both industrial and hygienic applications, they are available in polypropylene, PVDF, aluminium, stainless steel and Hastelloy depending on requirements. The pump tube set can be manufactured in various lengths depending on the size of the tank, barrel/drum, container or IBC that needs emptying.

We offered our FP 430 Ex S-41/38 pump with 1200mm column to reach the bottom of the tank. The FP 430 can achieve flow rates up to around 240 litres per minute depending on how far the fluid is transferred. The supplied pump is manufactured in stainless steel, FDA approved for contact with food products and can handle temperatures up to 120°C, making it the ideal pump for this customer’s application. 

Supplying IP 55 Rated Motors for Food Applications

As standard, we normally supply the FEM 4070 electric motor with our drum pumps, however this motor is only IP 24 rated. For food applications such as this, we supplied the F458 motor, this is IP 55 rated and therefore ensures no carbon deposits from the internal brushes will escape the motor and contaminate the pumped product. 

The customer had their own discharge hose and nozzle; however, we can supply hygienic rated hose and nozzles if required. We delivered the complete pump set from stock and the customer was operational the next day. They now have a robust and high-quality food rated pump set in their factory that is reliable, easy to clean and can be used for other processes if required.
