Imo Screw Pump for Transferring Diesel Fuel from Underground Bulk Tank to Rooftop Day Tank for Generator Supply

IMO Screw Pump ACG 052 K7 NTBPRequirement for a Diesel Transfer Pump to Comply with DSEAR standards

It is increasingly more common for commercial buildings such as data centres, office blocks and shopping malls to have back up diesel generators installed to supply emergency power in the event of outages. With increased reliability on IT equipment and the need for constant security, blackouts can lead to loss of revenue and provide huge risks to businesses.

It is crucial that these generators are constantly supplied with fuel to ensure they perform correctly as and when they are required, the pump is an important part of the whole system. For safety reasons and to avoid the risk of theft and flooding, the equipment is typically installed high up on the roof top, this can pose challenges for the manufacturers and installers.

We were contacted by a manufacturer that was supplying and installing a generator to a new commercial office block. The location of the tank and equipment had been planned out to comply with DSEAR standards and they required a means of transferring diesel fuel from an underground bulk storage tank to the day tank mounted on the rooftop next to the generator.

Our Supply of a Positive Displacement Imo ACG 052 K7 NTBP Triple Screw Pump

The storage tank is housed 5 metres below ground and the day tank is located 45 metres up on the roof, after accounting for static head and frictional losses in the pipework, it was ascertained that a discharge pressure of 6 bar was required at a flow rate of 120 litres per minute. The customer explained that only a bare shaft pump was required as they would be sourcing and installing their own electric motor.

We know how critical the pump is for these systems as they are the only means of supplying fuel to the generator, we therefore supplied one of our Imo ACG 052 K7 NTBP inline triple screw pumps. This positive displacement pump is fitted with inline inlet/outlet ports and can be installed either vertically or horizontally, this is excellent for installations where there are space limitations. This range comes with DIN flanges and is installed with an integral relief valve to protect the pump and system from overpressure.

Screw pumps are designed to handle fuels, oils and other clean lubricating liquids, they have many benefits over other types of positive displacement pump. For example, screw pumps produce low noise levels, produce low pulsations for a smooth and constant flow, they are self-priming and can therefore perform a suction lift and handle fluids containing trapped air. One of the main benefits over other pumps is that they are more compact as no gearbox is required, meaning the motor is directly coupled to the pump.
