Marine Type Approved Pumps for Hot Water Boosting and Air Conditioning Cooling System
Enquiry for Marine Type Approved Pumps for a Ships Dry Dock Refit
Marine type approval is mandatory for equipment onboard a lot of vessels, the most common classification bodies are Lloyds, DNV, Bureau Veritas and ABS. Pumps approved to this standard shows quality and reliability, achieving type approval is no easy feat.
One of our customer’s ships was undergoing a refit during dry dock, it was discovered during inspection that their hot water boosting and air conditioning cooling pumps were damaged beyond economical repair and replacements were required before the vessel could become operational again.
There was limited space in the engine room as the existing pipework had been designed around the original pumps, we therefore studied dimensional drawings and photos closely to ensure our pumps would fit with little to no modifications required.
Our Bronze VM 80/20A Vertical Inline Centrifugal Pump for the A/C Cooling System
For the sea water A/C cooling system, we selected 2 of our VM 80/20A vertical inline centrifugal pumps with cast bronze casings and impellers for corrosion resistance. These pumps are Lloyds type approved as per the customer’s requirements, the flange to flange and inlet/outlet connections are the same as the existing unit and installation was therefore a simple process for the engineers onboard.
Our MO 19/20 Horizontal Side Channel Self-Priming Pumps for the Hot Water Boosting System
2 of our MO 19/20 horizontal side channel self-priming pumps were selected for the hot water boosting system. As they are pumping fresh water at 70°C, a cast iron casing with bronze impeller is satisfactory. A low flow rate of 3m³/hr at 4.5 bar was required, this fits multistage side channel pumps perfectly. Due to their design, they can produce low flow rates at medium to high pressures which is difficult for centrifugal pumps to achieve. They are also self-priming by nature and can handle entrained gas without damage, an excellent feature for systems such as this.
All four pumps were delivered to the customer in 4 weeks, installation was a quick process for the engineers and the ship is now fully operational with a reliable hot water and air conditioning cooling system.
