Aviation Industry
Pumps are used within the aviation industry to provide fluids reliably within ATEX Zones and safe areas for a multitude of applications. Profitability relies on the ability to turn around aircraft quickly on the ground and so it is important any pumps used are reliable, efficient and require irregular service.
Our pumps are accustomed to handling the following applications:
Plane sewage tank emptying
Pumps specifically designed to empty planes sewage tanks without clogging where existing pumps are clogging which require time-consuming disassembly to unclog
Aviation Refuelling
High volume atex rated pumps are designed to transfer kerosene into fuel tanks at low pressure within aircraft wings. They are also used in aviation fuel tank farms for the bulk fuelling of tankers.
Aviation Test rigs
When designs of aircraft engines are modified or blends of fuels are altered test rigs are built for the testing of engines, which are designed to simulate actual conditions such as refuelling and high altitude continuous running. Aviation test rig pumps are tested at low temperatures, with low NPSH, which are atex rated running continuously throughout the test for several days.
Plane De-icing
Pumps for de-icing of planes spraying ethylene glycol or propylene glycol with thickening agents via spray nozzles to remove ice from planes and also prevent the build-up of ice on wings.
Pumps for firefighting foam transfer from containers such as ibc’s or 205l drums which are low shear and non-foaming. Batching units are utilised for exact dispensing of foam for the refilling of containers such as extinguishers.
Lubricant and detergent pressure Spraying
At times parts within planes and helicopters require lubricating and cleaning which involves the use of a wheel-mounted pressure sprayer to deliver a high-pressure mixture of lubricant or detergent and water at between 6-8 bar. Such pressure sprayers are precharged with air enabling them to be used autonomously within ATEX zones.
To assist in any aviation pumping applications we provide pumps with the following features:
ATEX Rated - Ensuring suitability for the most explosive of environments
Low NPSH - Ability to handle low NPSH conditions which also mean sealed tanks such as aviation fuel tanks can be completely emptied
Full Containment - Pumps can be a magnetic drive but also offer full containment of all fluids should a part fail
Reversibility - If during tank filling or emptying, fluids need transferring in the opposite direction reversible pumps can be manufactured
