Drum Pump Kit for Disinfectant Dispensing at Hospital

Drum Pump Kit for Disinfectant Dispensing at HospitalKeeping work environments, public spaces and equipment clean and sterilised has never been as crucial as it has been in recent times. Reducing the risk of spreading viruses and protecting the welfare of staff and patients is especially important in hospitals, it is essential that cleaning staff always have easy access to disinfectants and cleaning agents

Bulk Container Dispensing Overview

To save costs, cleaning products are often delivered to commercial premises in bulk containers, it is then the responsibility of the user to transfer it into smaller containers for use around site. We were approached by a cleaning contractor that had this exact issue; they manage the cleaning of a UK hospital where they receive chemicals in 205 litre drums. These drums need to be dispensed into smaller containers and bottles for staff to use around the hospital to perform their cleaning duties. The liquids are hazardous so it essential that they are decanted safely but it is also important that the process if performed efficiently to maximise the time staff spend doing their jobs.

Immersible Pumps for Container Emptying

The safest and most efficient solution for this customer is our FES Seal-less Barrel Pump Kit for Cleaning Agents & Disinfectants, the pump is immersed inside the drum and the column length is cut to 1000mm to reach the bottom and maximise the amount of fluid drained to avoid wastage. This kit comes with a customisable length of chemical grade hose along with a dispensing nozzle to boost the control the operator has over the amount dispensed. The motor also has a variable speed dial to increase/decrease the flow rate easily, this used in conjunction with the nozzle allows for extremely low flow rates, ideal for filling small containers or for avoiding splashing and spillages when handling hazardous chemicals.

After obtaining MSDS documents for all the chemicals this client uses which were Enzymatic and Alkaline based detergents for the cleaning of surgical instruments and medical devices, we were able to determine that polypropylene, ETFE and FKM are compatible materials. The F424 barrel pump supplied with this kit is seal-less, the absence of a mechanical seal provides peace of mind for the operator when pumping chemicals. This means there is no concern of premature seal failure or frequent maintenance as with traditional mechanically sealed designs. To add increased safety for this customer, we supplied a fume gland with the kit, this is screwed into the opening at the top of the drum and stops any unwanted hazardous fumes exiting the drum and causing harm to staff from inhalation.

This client now has a safe way of dispensing their disinfectants directly into Mechanical Washers and Ultrasonic devices while not reducing their productivity, the hospital will continue to receive regular cleans ensuring patients and staff are protected.
