Rail transport is currently used for approximately 9% of UK freight. Whilst the vast majority of UK freight (75%) is delivered by HGVs, rail is actively encouraged as a method for haulage as each train can reduce the number of HGVs by 75. Rail hubs are actively encouraged due to their location away from inner-city areas and the reduction of road vehicles hubs bring which is often why incentives are used to promote such hubs.

  • Fluid supply for trains for domestic services such as clean water for drinking and washing, and screen wash transfer

  • Loading and unloading of railcard trucks and stripping of liquids from rail tanks including crude oil, chemicals, fuels, lng, and hygienic products

  • Dewatering of culverts which are overflows for wastewater at the side of rails

  • Air conditioning of carriages
