FLUX barrel pumps also called drum pumps are designed for transferring, emptying or dosing must existing fluids, from low to high viscosity products, these pumps are typically used for fluids that are supplied in containers such as 205 litre/45 gallon drums/barrels, 1000 litre containers called IBC's or Intermediate Bulk Container and also smaller containers 25 litre, 100 litre etc. By using a barrel pump we can avoid having to tip up the container in order to emptying it something than can often be quite dangerous and illegal thus using a drum/barrel pump is the safest and more efficient way of extracting liquid from a drum or container as wastage/spillage during the operation is next to nothing.

The pumping action and operation of the barrel pumps is quite simple, the pump tube is inserted into the opening of the container (bunghole) which typically is a 2 inch aperture, once the pump tube is immersed in the liquid the pumping action is done by the rotation of an impeller which is fitted at the bottom of the pump, the rotating impeller pushes the liquid up, towards the pump tube outlet and out of the discharge side of the pump.

There are several pump tube lengths each designed specifically for the various drums and containers available on the market, the most common are 1000 mm for 205 l drums, 1200 mm for IBC's and 700 mm for smaller containers - 25 litre jerry cans, 100 litre tanks etc.

This FLUX drum & IBC emptying pump kit is supplied as a complete pump set containing a Flux  430 S-41/38 in stainless steel, discharge hose, stainless steel hand nozzle, PP compression gland and either a Flux F 460 Ex, 230V-50Hz-460Watt motor suitable for viscosities up to 600 cPs or a compressed air driven motor (F 416 Ex 460 watt – 6 bar) capable of handling a max. viscosity of 800 cPs. This pump kit is ATEX (explosion proof) certified suitable for Zoned (non-safe/hazardous) and highly flammable liquids, solvents and fuels in general, this versatile pump kit is available in 1000 mm, designed for 200 litre drums and 1200 mm for IBC type containers.

Design Features/Benefits

        Grease lubricated shaft bearing.

Can handle small solid particles and abrasives whilst having minimal wear.

Can be used with a hand nozzle or pump against a close valve. (Only Temporarily)

Mechanically sealed – prevents any liquid entering the internal tube section.

Supplied with steel cored internal tube for added stability (Extra bearing support).

Heavy duty ETFE impellers fitted as standard

Fast disassembly into two main parts due to screw-on foot component, allowing the pump to be cleaned and maintained with ease.

FAQS

The standard tubeset lengths are 700 mm for smaller containers - 25 litre jerry cans, 100 litre tanks etc, 1000 mm for 205 litre drums and 1200 mm for IBC's. Other bespoke lengths are available on request.
Firstly, always check the compatibility of the materials available against the fluid being pumped. The main materials to check are the tubeset, impeller, mechanical seal and o-ring. It may be that more than one material is suitable for your fluid and selection could be based on the application type. For instance; PP, PVDF, Stainless steel and aluminium are all suitable for water. If it is a simple transfer application, then the most cost-effective material will be best. However, if it involves another variable to consider such as high temperature, then an alternative material may be a better selection.
There are various motor types, including; air motor, mains powered electric and battery. Selection is either a personal preference or due to site limitations. For instance, if mains power or an air compressor are not available on site, then a battery motor is the obvious choice. The power of the motor will be down to the application details, such as viscosity and flow rate required. An Atex motor will be required if the fluid is flammable or if the pump will be installed in a hazardous area.
A mechanically sealed pump is recommended for abrasive, crystallizing, sticky and high temperature fluids. A sealless type pump is be recommended for all other fluid types.
ATEX is an abbreviation of “Atmospheres Explosibles”. It is a regulation set out by the European Union to ensure the safety of products that are used to handle flammable products or are installed in environments containing flammable gases, vapours, mists or combustible dusts. For instance, if the pump is being installed in an explosive environment, then only the motor needs to meet the Atex standard stopping it from causing a spark during operation and igniting the atmosphere. However, if the fluid being pumped is flammable, then the pump will also need to meet Atex standards to ensure that no sparks are caused inside the pump itself when the fluid goes through it. It is crucial that an Atex rated pump or motor are used for applications involving explosive environments or flammable fluids, using a non-Atex pump or motor in these situations is extremely dangerous and contravenes health and safety standards.
Please be aware that the figures displayed relate to the largest pump from this range of products, not specific models. For details on viscosity for specific models, please refer to datasheets or contact a member of our sales team.
