Tuthill Pumps are an American manufacturer of internal gear pumps, magnetically coupled gear pumps and rotary piston pumps, they have been producing pumps since 1892 and have grown into one of the market leaders.

They supply pumps for various industries, including; crude oil refineries, chemical, marine, oil and gas, power generation and many more. Fluids being pumped must have lubricating properties for the pump to function correctly, common fluids include; low sulphur gas oil, marine diesel, heavy fuel oil and jet fuel.

What spare parts do you supply?

We supply all parts associated with Tuthill gear pumps, these include; gears, casings, mechanical seals, o-rings and gaskets. Any parts labelled on the drawing and parts list are available for purchase, either individually or as part of a kit.

How do I identify what spare parts I need for my pump?

The pump needs to be disassembled and inspected as part of a maintenance program to correctly identify any damaged parts. The drawing and parts list then need to be viewed to find the correct part description and position number.

What information do you require to provide a quotation for spare parts?

The basic information required to obtain a quotation includes; the pump model number, serial number if available, description or name of the part and the position number of the part if available. This information allows us to correctly identify the parts required and to identify the correct materials.

My pump needs to be repaired frequently, is there something wrong?

Premature pump failure can be an indication of system problems or incorrect pump selection. Common causes of premature pump failure include; incompatibility of the pump materials with the fluid, incorrect pipework size, incorrect type of pump and incorrect size of pump. We can help identify the cause of your pump failure if you provide the following information; description of the application, fluid being pumped, viscosity, temperature, flow rate required, pressure required, inlet conditions and bore of pipework.

Should I purchase spare parts and repair my pump or purchase a complete new pump?

This depends on several factors; how frequently are spare parts required? how long has the pump been in operation? and the price of the required spare parts versus the cost of a complete new pump. For example, if a new casing, set of gears, shaft and mechanical seal are required, then it is more cost effective to purchase a complete new pump as a large proportion of the high value parts are required. If the pump is wearing frequently and prematurely, then this may be an indication that the wrong type or size of pump is installed. It is a good idea to talk to us in this situation as we may be able to identify the issue with your pump or system and select a more suitable pump for your requirements.

I am not happy with the pump I currently have, can you provide an alternative?

Yes, we can help. We can select an alternative type, size or brand of pump if you provide the following information; description of the application, fluid being pumped, viscosity, temperature, flow rate required, pressure required, inlet conditions and bore of pipework. Using a different type or size of pump that is more suited to your application could help reduce your running and maintenance costs.
