Barrel Pump Troubleshooting Guide
Barrel Pump Troubleshooting Guide
If you are experiencing issues with your barrel Pump, the below guide can help you diagnose any issues. Alternatively speak to one of our Technical Sales Engineers who can most likely diagnose the problem very quickly.
Some questions always worth considering before starting are:
1. When did the problem start?
2. Has the pump ever worked correctly?
3. When was maintenance last carried out?
Problem | Possible Cause | Remedy |
Zero Fluid Delivery | Air within Pump | Ensure pump is fully primed. |
Insufficient Manometric Head | Requirements of system exceed that of pump. Check system losses, against pump specification. Check pump impeller for wear or presence of debris.
Reverse Operation | Check direction of rotation is correct
Impeller clogged or valve clogged | Remove obstruction
Pipework | Check all valves open. Check hose is not kinked. Check spring check valve in nozzle is opening
Motor Tripped | Check fault release. Have motor electrically inspected.
Motor Failure | Check motor shaft pin. Check IP rating of motor, and see if compatible with area of operation. Heavy dust and low IP rated motors will shorten lifespan.
Reducing flow or none at all | liquid level in pit is too low. Pump is handling water with air | Increase liquid level in tank, or stop pump before reaching low level. |
Increase of Manometric Head | Pump is underspecified. Increase impeller diameter and motor size
Impeller or suction strainer clogged | Clear blockages
Solidification | Solidification of liquid within pump. Clean pump. Review cleaning procedure.
Inconsistency In Batching | Method | If Using stroke counter, may get different volumes each time |
Calibration | Some fluids can change with temperature, check settings in flowmeter. Update settings
User Change | Check settings to see if settings changed by user
Flowmeter | Change flowmeter for design which automatically dispenses correct amount with changes in viscosity
Valve Timings | Valve operation is too slow or distance from end of flowmeter to tank too far
Product Foaming / Splashing | Pump method incorrect | Consult us |
Liquid left in Container | Incorrect Pump |
