Molasses Transfer Pump for Animal Feed
Introduction to Molasses
Molasses has the appearance of black treacle/syrup and is highly viscous, it is refined from sugarcane or sugar beets and can vary in sugar content depending on the method of extraction. Its primary use is in the flavouring and sweetening of foods that are otherwise dry or bland.
Molasses is a vital ingredient in feed for livestock such as sheep and cattle, it’s addition not only makes the food more palatable, it also adds missing vitamins, sugars and proteins while aiding in the digestion of dry feed so that the animals can consume more and in turn create a higher productive output.
Enquiry for Molasses transfer from a Manufacturer of Wet Animal Feed
Some animal feed manufacturers supply a dry product and have no need for pumps as the food is conveyed instead, we were contacted by a manufacturer of wet animal feed that required a reliable pump for molasses transfer, a critical element in their manufacturing process. As the standards are lower when handling animal products, food grade approvals such as FDA or 3A are not required and industrial grade pumps can be used.
North Ridge's Rotary Piston Pump with Built-in Relief Valve
Our range of rotary piston pumps are the ideal solution for this application as they can transfer both thin and viscous fluids up to 200,000cst while not losing efficiency. This allows the operators to use the pump for handling molasses at various temperatures without concern if the pump will function correctly. Our piston pumps are positive displacement and therefore the flow rate is directly proportional to the speed of the motor/gearbox that is mounted. We installed a built-in relief valve for this customer to protect their system from overpressure, in the event of a closed valve or blockage in the pipework, the relief valve opens and recirculates the fluid in the pump head to safeguard the pump and pipework from damage.
The added flexibility of being Atex rated, self-priming and reversible makes this range an excellent solution for loading, offloading and mixing applications involving difficult food and non-food fluids such as chocolate, honey, detergents, thermal oils and bitumen. We can also manufacture our rotary piston pumps in various sizes and configurations to meet a wide range of needs, for example different sealing arrangements can be installed to allow the handling of liquids up to 300°C and larger pumps can produce flow rates up to 64m³/hr.
