DESCRIPTION

Duplex Basket strainers are a type of strainer used in horizontal pipework to filter solids from fluids. They are typically designed to allow 100% flow with little pressure drop, and can be maintained in situ due to their design containing valves allowing one side of the unit to be maintained without process stoppage.

Designs consist of inlet a single inlet and outlet with top accessible covers for each strainer allowing easy access to the inner strainer. The central manifold houses a lever enabling control of fluid flow to each side, and closing of each side for maintenance.

Our models are available in a wide Selection of Materials enabling suitability for most processes and liquids with temperatures up to 200°C.

Applications

Such models are typically used for:

-       Pump protection & Flowmeter protection

-       Instrumentation protection such as gauges, or analysers

-       Nozzle protection

Benefits:

-       100% Full Flow due to large surface area design with low pressure drop.

-       Maintain in situ whilst system in operation without system drainage

-       Available up to 8”

-       Various fittings available including Screwed ports, Socket weld, PN16 or ANSI Flanges

-       Accessories available including differential pressure indicator to detect clogging, magnets for ferrous metal removal and heating jackets

FAQS

A duplex strainer is a unit consisting of twin strainers allowing maintenance to be undertaken on each strainer without process stoppage. Units contain a lever to divert flow to each side or seal the unit, and due to the size and weight -eyebolts for ease of lifting.
Fluid flows into the unit via an inlet with flow being split between each side. Flow is controlled to each side via a centrally located lever on the main manifold.
As our strainers can be manufactured in a wide range of materials, Liquids can range from fresh water, to sea water, chemicals acids, lube oils, fuel oil or seawater.
Before cleaning it is important for the fluid temperature to be checked and ensure the temperature is lowered in the unit by diverting flow from one side for several minutes before maintenance is undertaken.

On occasions it may be necessary to lower process temperatures, to ensure once the access lid is removed, that fluid or steam does not injure personnel as the unit could be pressurised.
